The 7-Day Somatic Self-Care Journal
The 7-Day Somatic Self-Care Journal & Tracker
An evening workbook for turning your skincare routine from a flaw hunt into a ritual of comfort
You step into the bathroom to unwind. Within seconds, you're leaning toward the mirror, scanning for every fine line, breakout, and bit of uneven texture.
That isn't self-care. It's an audit. And it quietly puts your nervous system on alert right before bed.
Created by a therapist as a companion to the article "The Illusion of Self-Care," this 7-day journal helps you break the "auditing mindset." It teaches you to anchor in what your body feels instead of what your eyes criticize. You don't need new products, just a new way of paying attention.
How it works
Each evening takes about 15 minutes and has three simple parts:
Before your routine, reflect. Rate your mood, then answer one reflection question.
During your routine, feel. Follow a 5-step body-awareness checklist: water on your wrists, the texture of your cleanser, the weight of your feet on the floor.
After your routine, notice. Check in on your mood, body and mind, and whether you were auditing or caring at the mirror.
The 7 evenings
Noticing: where do your eyes go first?
Care, not correction: catching the switch into "fix-it" mode
Stepping back: seeing a whole person, not a collection of flaws
Closing your eyes: letting your hands lead instead of the critic
Setting the boundary: "This is a ritual of comfort, not a performance review."
Exhaling the day: signaling to your body that it's safe to rest
Coming home: bringing the full Mirror Meditation together
